Hello! I’m sorry this is only a text post of the reading. If you want to talk about it further please dm me I’m happy to! The first eclipse of 2021 is h i t t i n g m e h a r d. This eclipse in Sagittarius happened at 7:14 am EST/4:14 am PST this morning - a total lunar eclipse and “blo0d moon” because the moon turns red during the eclipse. I feel like I’m inside of a portal, but I don’t know if I can articulate that in any more detail. During a lunar eclipse, one of our luminaries (the sun and the moon), goes dark. There’s the dissonance of being thrust into darkness during a full moon, a tension. And, Mercury stations retrograde on the 29th. But remember we don’t fear retrogrades here! Mercury retrograde is an opportunity to invert our approach to communication, to information. The shift from urgency/efficiency/yield to caution and deliberation. The eclipse is also an opportunity to simplify and let go of harmful distractions. I pulled three cards and didn’t ascribe any placement for them. This felt like a very straightforward spread - only what is necessary. From left to right: The Ten of Swords Temperance The King of Cups Temperance is the card that corresponds to Sagittarius in the Tarot. I like to see these correspondences as ways that sign grow, a powerfully nuanced version of that sign. The message of this reading is “slow down,” with a real feeling of tension behind it. We’re all feeling pressure (The Ten of Swords), and we need to recognize the ways in which it’s self-inflected. Does holding ourselves to such constantly high standards serve a greater purpose? Does that kind of tension enrich our lives? Temperance indicates that it’s only by slowing down that we can answer these questions and reaffirm our goals and vision. By not fixating on that vision, by resting our eyes (and the rest of us). This isn’t something that responds to exertion of will. Best not to create more effort than is necessary. In Temperance, what we need comes from doing the opposite of what our inner critics are telling us to do. Exploring other truths. And through Temperance we reach the King of Cups. This card pictures a swamp, and our feet might feel stuck in the mud right now, but that habitat is also incredibly bio-diverse, intricate, and fecund. Borderline chthonic (of the underworld, the depths of the earth). So which part are you paying attention to right now? The personality of the King of Cups deals with emotional depth, shadow selves, how we live with our pain. This portal goes to the parts of ourselves we try to avoid, that we can only really see when one of the lights goes out. The feeling of pressure created by the 10 of Swords, released with a giant exhale in Temperance, is like swimming to the bottom of the pool. We’re still breathing, and when we come up for air we’ll feel transformed as if we’ve gone through the looking glass. Embrace it, the only way out is through. Rest, reset, take a breath.
