Btw, someone asked if a venture capital firm takes a percent of profits or a share of company in exchange for their investment
Venture Capital firms expect your company to grow to 1000x it's size, then sell company and they earn 1000x on their investment (or whatever the x multiple is). They do not share in profits. (or, there's a rare case the company goes public on wall street and all the shares should go way up in value, maybe 1,000,000x sometimes)
Now PRIVATE EQUITY firms are the opposite. They give usually an existing business more money to grow 1000x. They take a share of the profits the entire time, they don't necessarily look to sell off the business but often that happens because they compel the company to become more profitable constantly (to get their higher profits), the company ends up much more valuable and then some other private equity firm buys it
Both VENTURE CAPITAL and PRIVATE EQUITY firms are just piles of rich folk's money looking to grow, they go about it in different ways.
Oh...and these firms? They're under great pressure to hand out money. They MUST grow the money or they're fired. Rich folk are super demanding and greedy and expect to get even more money. If VCs or PEs aren't handing out money in the hopes it can grow, they're out.
